Early-stage AI caries detection tool for dental bitewing radiographs

Dentistry.AI Inc built a software-only tool that analyzed bitewing dental radiographs to detect caries. The company, founded in 2017 in Pompano Beach, Florida, aimed to provide automated caries prediction that could plug into existing dental imaging applications without requiring dedicated hardware. The product was deployed in clinics in the United States and Europe during its active period.

The company’s approach centered on computer vision analysis of bitewing x-rays, the most common radiograph type used for interproximal caries detection. Unlike broader platforms that cover multiple pathology types (bone loss, periapical lesions, calculus), Dentistry.AI focused narrowly on caries prediction from this single radiograph format.

Important: We have not independently tested Dentistry.AI’s product. The company appears to have ceased operations around 2020, with its domain no longer resolving to an active product site and its Crunchbase profile listed as permanently closed. No FDA 510(k) clearance was found in public records for Dentistry.AI Inc. This should not be confused with Denti.AI Technology Inc (Toronto), which is a separate, currently active company with its own FDA clearances. Given the inactive status, dental practices evaluating AI diagnostic tools should consider currently supported and FDA-cleared alternatives.
